Application Process
Express Your Interest
Contact the Director of Children's Ministry: Diana Yelverton,
or call 302-629-2862.
Observe Programs
You are encouraged to observe our programs. This visit gives you an opportunity to get a feel for the expectations before taking on the responsibilities of a volunteer. Please contact a POWER ZONE staff member to set up an observation time.
Prayerfully Consider Your Commitment
We want you to take time to pray and think about this commitment. Seek counsel from family and friends. This should be a heartfelt decision.
Attend a Safe Sanctuary Class
Gethsemane United Methodist in its Policy for the Protection of Minors and Developmentally Disabled Adults vows to take seriously the importance of providing a safe environment where all people can participate freely and safely in the life of the church and intend to maintain a sanctuary or "safe place" for all to grow in faith and maturity.
In order to fulfill those objectives, the church participates fully in the United Methodist Peninsula-Delaware Conference Safe Sanctuary abuse prevention program. If you wish to volunteer in POWER ZONE you will be required to become certified by this conference to work in that ministry.
Contact Diana Yelverton to sign up for a class and then complete the required forms.
Complete the Working with Minors Volunteer Application
Print the form from our website or pick up a copy at the church office. The application will ask for information used in the placement process and it adheres to the Gethsemane United Methodist Child Protection Policy.
Two references are needed: a pastor or spiritual leader, a close friend or an employer from the past year. Try to include references familiar with your experience working with children.
Return the completed application to the Director of Children's Ministries
References will then be contacted, and a background check will be conducted.
Follow Up
Upon approval, our Children's Ministry Director will contact you to discuss your placement. You will be given a personalized nametag and lanyard to be worn each time you volunteer.
The Director will provide your training. Training is required twice a year.
You will need to fill out the required forms, and it is our prayer and joy for you to experience purpose and fullfillment in POWER ZONE!
