"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
The Outreach team has the privilege of not only teaching our congregation about the good news, but we have been blessed this year overseeing the works of hands and feet. His great and merciful love is taught through the obedience and responsibility of Christian action to lead by example, we established a statement of mission accountability and helped draft a policy on fundraising activities. We also educate the church on missions through the weekly bulletins, newsletters, mission moments, guest speakers, and our 401 class. Through giving 10% of all offerings to missions, we have been able to fund over 18 different missionaries/organizations, mission trips, and special events. We train up disciples through many serving opportunities and by providing assistance to our local parishioners by setting aside 1% of offerings for emergency assistance. We conduct many fundraising events to also assist our evangelistic efforts.
During the 2007 year, we have had the opportunity to not only fund, but also send members on mission trips to Guatemala, New Orleans, and Cherokee, North Carolina. For the new year, we already have one trip planned in March for New Orleans and another in the summer to mountains of North Carolina.
Our members also have helped to renovate a small church in Virginia and assist in the construction of a local Habitat for Humanity Home. We collected school supplies for needy children as well as a back to school clothes give away. On Little League Opening Day, members proclaimed "Jesus First, then Baseball" with over 500 free water bottles to those in attendance. We hosted our 3rd annual 5k Race for Faith, and raised $5,800 for Seaford Mission of Hope. Several small groups served dinner every other month at the mission. Our youth group participates in the annual Souper Bowl of Caring and CROP Walk raising thousands of dollars for the local food bank. Our church provided around 140 Christmas dinners for local families in need. The entire congregation supports annually the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child by packing and shipping out up to 150 shoeboxes each year.
